All volunteers will receive a training after arriving in Katmandu. The training is designed to help you settle into Nepal and to ensure you are fully prepared for your volunteer placement. A typical training period is as follows: Day 2 – 3 The first two days will be spent in Katmandu. The training includes:- Nepali cultural orientation / general cultural exchange- The people of Nepal and their caste system - Basic Nepali language classes - Language and Skills Activities - Sightseeing (Famous Temples & Places in the valley) Days 4 – 6 Based in a rural village, this provides an insight into Nepali village life Training includes language classes, living with local families, eating traditional food, observing village culture and getting a general feel for the lifestyle. During this time, you will also visit several Placements where you can choose to be based. Volunteers will stay in a shared accommodation either with a host family, in a shared house or in a hostel. Volunteers are required to bring their own sleeping bag. Two meals a day are provided as part of the programme - lunch, and dinner. The program starts on any date of your choice. You can volunteer from 2 weeks up to 3 months. You do not need to have any formal teacher training or experience to participate, but whatever experience you do have will be taken into account when arranging your day-to-day activities. You just need a good command of oral and written English. Our Projects in Nepal ! There are different kind of projects that you can join :
Childrean Care & Orphanage Program
The projects include Nepali run children's homes and Orphanage throughout the Katmandu Valley. Each and every home will vary in terms of number of children, cleanliness, management capability, funding assistance, health issues, education provided, etc.
Medical Health & Education Program Many Nepali people are unaware of issues. Therefore this program mobilizes volunteers mainly to work with the youth clubs, women's groups and other local organizations to teach them about proper health and sanitation habits.
Teaching English in Monasteries This is a great opportunity for volunteers who want to Teach English in the monasteries. There are several Tibetan refugees Camps and Monasteries that house hundreds of Tibetan kids taking Buddhist monk educational training in Katmandu to preserve the amazing cultural richness of Tibet and Buddhism practice.
Teaching English in Schools
The goal of this program is to ensure that the children of Nepal are able to advance their practical English language skills, both written and verbal, to ensure their success in the future. In Nepal, English is becoming more and more of a required skill for job placement and educational advancement.
Client Testimonials
“I really enjoyed interacting with the children in the orphanage. They were all so responsive despite of the language barrier and I really felt like I’m making a difference to them. I gained a lot of practical experience and also learnt different ways of communicating. I thoroughly enjoying the program. I spent the first half of the placement in the orphanage, (6 weeks) and I shift to Teach English in the near by Government School. The highlight of the placement is in the evening where I meet the local Nepalese woman, they thought me how to dress the Nepali custom “Saree” we Dance and Sing, and sometimes they interviewed me about what my country looks like, my family, my culture back home. I really had a great time interacting with the villager even though there are several times we don’t understand each other. This is so much more than just a trip. This is the beginning of what I want to do with the rest of my life! Thank you.”
- Michelle Harrison,
I had the most amazing time. I've never done this sort of volunteering work before but everything surpassed my expectations! So many volunteering organizations only have one charity programme. But Rural Society Development Agency provides real flexibility which means you feel you achieve much more than perhaps the others do. Thank you for an amazing time. My coordinator Ms Hang was fantastic, nothing was too much trouble and she became a friend to all the volunteers and understood what everyone wanted to do. I think we all came away with our special charities and special memories. Stella Ciorra
